March for Life Bus Information
Friday, January 19, 2018, is the 45th annual March for Life in Washington D.C. St. Peter’s will provide bus transportation to and from the march for anyone who wants to attend. We will meet at St. Peter’s at 10:00 a.m. and we will leave Washington at 4:00 p.m. To reserve a seat or for more information, please contact Kim Cardwell, at 301-481-8463 or [email protected]
Contribution Statements for 2017 – contribution statements will be automatically sent to all individuals and families who donated $250.00 or more in total for 2017. Statements will be mailed by the end of January. If your contribution totals less than $250 and you would still like a statement, please contact the Parish Office and we will be more than happy to mail or email your statement. We set the limit at $250 merely to cut down on postage costs. Please let us know if you do not receive your statement, if you find any inaccuracies, or if you need a replacement copy.
National Collection Next Weekend
A collection will be taken next weekend for the Church Missions within the United States. This appeal will be made to support poorer dioceses of our Church. Right here in the United States, some dioceses are unable to provide fundamental pastoral care for their faithful. These “home mission” dioceses cannot support an adequate number of priests. They cannot afford funding for youth ministry programs or religious education. Please help strengthen the Church at home with a generous donation to this week’s collection for the Church. Please put your envelope in the regular collection basket.
The Annual Baby Bottle Boomerang that supports the Catherine Foundation Pregnancy Care Center in Waldorf will take place during the month of January – an appropriate time since the March for Life takes place. There are baby bottles at each entrance to church. Please take one home after Mass. Please fill the baby bottle with your loose change to help this free service continue for women who face an unexpected pregnancy and difficult choices about life.. Bottles will be collected the first weekend in February.
Christmas Flowers – Additional donations for flowers that decorated our Church at Christmas were received in honor of or in memory of: Janine Burch, Joseph Burch, Vernon and Hattie Burch, Herbert and Pearl Hintze, Russell Hintze , David Hogge, Evelyn Quijada, Joseph Burch and Kerien Bruffy.
Landings Program – During Advent and Lent, Sunday Mass attendance often increases as lapsed Catholics may begin to think once again about their relationship with Christ and His Church. However, even returning to Mass can be daunting for some. Saint Peter’s Church has a group of parishioners who are ready to welcome you back into the Church. Suzanne Carr is providing leadership for our group and may be reached at 301.645.5203. Some information (i.e., name and how to contact you) will be gathered and you will be invited to a series of gatherings over a 6-8 week period to answer questions and address reservations. We are so excited that you are coming home. Please contact Suzanne if you have friends or family members who may be interested even if they are not in Saint Peter’s parishioners.
Inclement Weather – as we experienced this week the weather can quickly turn from mild to bitter cold. Please be reminded that when roads and sidewalks become ice or snow covered, use common sense and extreme caution when deciding whether to travel to Mass. We have provisions to have surfaces cleared on the parish property, but we cannot guarantee that things will be spotless and ice free each time you attend Mass. We must keep all our parishioners safe at home, on the roads, and when moving around parish property.
A Tidy Church – please help us keep our parish church neat and tidy. Hymnals and books fit into the racks on the backs of the pews: each small rack holds one blue covered hymnal/missalette, a prayer book and a laminated card about receiving Holy Communion. The long plastic rack holds three blue covered books. This means nothing is left on the pews and everything is kept in order throughout the week. We appreciate any help you can give us in keeping God’s house in order.
