 Are we obligated to attend Mass twice on Christmas weekend? Yes. One Mass fulfills the precept to assist at Mass on Sundays; the other Mass fulfills the obligation to assist at Mass on a holy day of obligation – Christmas.
 Can I attend Mass on Sunday evening and fulfill both obligations? No. The Masses are distinct: one is for the Fourth Sunday of Advent and the other begins the Christmas Season.
 Must I attend Mass on the 1st of January? While the first of January is the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God and is usually a holy day of obligation, because the 1st falls on a Monday there is no obligation to attend Mass this year. We have moved the daily Mass to 9 a.m. on this day to assist those who would like to keep the feast day and begin the first day of the New Year with the celebration of Holy Mass – but gives them an extra hour to relax.
